So aside from the DABDA blog, which I'm very behind on, I started this one which will hopefully get more attention lol. So its Christmas eve and I finally made it back home to towner. I can't wait to spend the next couple day's with my family and old friends that are around.
Last night we had our Christmas party in Devils Lake and it was a blast, despite me being over an hour late due to work, but what can you do. The mood was jolly and the friends smiling and laughing the whole night, right before we all decided to go home and become comatose.
Christmas always gets me thinking, I love this time of year, the traditions new and old, the giving of gifts ( I don't put much into getting anything, I love the gifts I do get cause I know they came from people that I love) but I've always been happier helping and giving gifts its just who I am I guess. I also remember the real meaning of Christmas and always find time to read the Christmas story, the real one not the one about the BB gun. In fact this morning I listened to it on the way home.
It got me thinking a little bit about the religion symbolism in my job. I'm an EMT and our logo is the star of life with the rod and serpent in the middle (ironic since I hate snakes with a passion, wanna see me scream like a girl show me a snake). The star I think about is the star that the wise men followed to find baby Jesus. It's a light in the darkness leading them to the savior of all people. I know that it probably doesn't mean the same thing as the star of life, but I like to think that sometimes people see the star on my uniform or on the side of our rig as a light in the darkness something like the wise men did when searching for the new born king. Our star doesn't compare in anyway to the star all those years ago but its a nice thought. The snake I know is from religion I can't quote the verse word for word, but if i recall correctly it went something like "all those who have been bitten need only look upon this statue that God commanded you to make and they shall be healed." I've seen allot of things in my line of work, and will continue to do so seeing as how I'm still such a young buck in the field of EMS and I know that there are those who aren't religious, and those that believe in something but don't know what, but I know that there have been several times that I've found strength, focus, calm and grace by simply praying on the way to, coming from, and after some of the trying calls. I hope everyone remembers the reason for the season (yep I made a rhyme, that's very over used) and keeps love and joy in their hearts over the holiday season. MERRY CHRISTMAS. and a happy new year.
